Privacy policy

The short version

This is a static website. There is no account system, no database, no server-side code, and no API. The calculator is JavaScript that runs on your own device. Your deposit amount, your move-in and move-out dates, your rent and your building size are used to do arithmetic in your browser and are never sent anywhere, stored anywhere, or seen by anyone including me.

That is not a policy choice that could quietly be reversed — it is how the site is built. There is no place for the data to go.

What the calculator does with your inputs

Nothing leaves the page. The figures you enter are held in memory while the tab is open and are gone when you close or reload it. The site does not use cookies to remember them, and does not use localStorage orsessionStorage, so nothing is written to your device either.

A consequence worth knowing: there is no way to save or resume a calculation, and no link you can send someone that contains your figures. If you want a record, take a screenshot.

Analytics

At the time of writing this site runs no analytics and sets no cookies at all.

I expect to add Google Analytics later, to see which pages people actually reach. If and when that happens, this section will be rewritten before the change goes live to say exactly what it collects and what cookies it sets. Analytics would record page visits, not calculator inputs — those never leave your browser regardless.

Advertising

The site carries no advertising at the time of writing. It may later. If advertising is added, the advertising network will set its own cookies and this section will be updated before that happens, with a link to the network's own privacy terms.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical information every web request contains — your IP address, the page requested, your browser's user agent, timestamps — in order to serve the page and to protect the service from abuse. I do not have access to a log of individual visitors, and this data is not combined with anything else. Cloudflare's own privacy documentation governs how it handles that information.

Links to other sites

Every state page links to that state's statute on an official government or legislative website. Those sites have their own privacy practices and are outside my control. Following one of those links is a normal outbound link: nothing about your calculation travels with you.

Children

This site is aimed at adults dealing with tenancies. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect information.

Your rights

Data protection laws give people rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about them. I hold none, so there is nothing to access, correct or delete. If you email me, I will have your email — I keep those only as long as needed to answer, and you can ask me to delete the exchange at any time.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. The changes that would matter most are the two flagged above: adding analytics, or adding advertising. Both would be described here before they went live, not after.
