Terms of use
Using this site means accepting these. They are short.

1. What this site provides
This site publishes summaries of US state security deposit laws and a calculator that applies those summaries to figures you enter. It is provided for general information only.
2. It is not legal advice
Nothing here is legal advice, and using this site does not create a solicitor-client, attorney-client, or any other professional relationship. I am not your lawyer. Statutes are summarised, not interpreted for your circumstances, and the same words can apply differently to different facts. Before you act on anything here — sending a demand, withholding a payment, filing a claim — verify it against the statute linked on the page, or consult a licensed attorney in your state.
3. Accuracy, and its limits
Every legal value on this site was checked against a primary source and is dated on the page it appears on. That is a real commitment and it is taken seriously. It is not a guarantee. Laws are amended, court decisions change how they are read, and a page verified in good faith can be out of date by the time you read it. The calculator's arithmetic is tested, but its output is only ever as good as the rule it applied and the figures you entered.
The site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published here, including any financial loss resulting from acting on a figure or a rule summary. If you need a decision you can rely on, get advice from a professional who can be accountable for it.
5. Your use of the site
You may read these pages, use the calculator, and quote or link to the content with attribution. Do not scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for others, republish the dataset wholesale as your own, or present the content in a way that implies I endorse your service or your advice.
6. External links
State pages link to official legislative and government sources. Those sites are not under my control and I am not responsible for their content or availability. Where a linked source has moved or changed, the correction is worth sending — see contact.
7. Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top of the page shows when they last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
